The team of Good Home Chef learned how to make this super easy salmon recipe from a friend and we were in disbelief at how delicious yet easy this meal was to prepare.
Nowadays, we prepare it at least a few times a month in our household. It’s a great meal prep recipe and so simple that we also make it on camping trips.
The dish is complemented with steamed rice or a fresh salad. We hope you enjoy tin foil salmon recipe!
How to make it
Below we’ll share out steps on how to make baked tin foil salmon. This recipe serves 6 persons.
- A 6 lb slab of Salmon (with or without skin)
- Pesto basil spread
- Fresh Parmesan
- Large sheet of tin or aluminum foil
- Olive oil (optional if you buy salmon without skin) or Pam Spray
- Salad packs with a dressing of choice
- Steamed Rice (can be cooked in a pressure cooker or rice cooker)
Step 1: Pre-heat your oven or grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
This should take around 10 minutes to fully heat. However, we recommend checking your oven or grill so it’d be prep.
Step 2: Wash and pat dry your salmon flank.
Rinse your salmon flank and use paper towels to pat it dry.
Step 2: Place your salmon flank on tin foil.
Place the salmon flank skin down onto a large sheet of foil. Moreover, you will need to be able to cover the entire flank of salmon with a single sheet of foil. Sometimes you may need two sheets of foil to fully cover and enclose.
If your salmon flank does not have skin, we recommend adding some olive oil underneath your salmon flank to keep it from sticking to the aluminum foil sheet.
Step 3: Cover your salmon flank with pesto basil.
We use pesto basil and parmesan that we buy in bulk from Costco. (We were not sponsored by Costco to write this post.)
Step 4: Layer your salmon flank with parmesan.
Step 5: Completely enclose the salmon in tin foil so that none of it is exposed.
Make sure none of the salmon is exposed so that heat is trapped into the foil as it cooks.
Step 6: Cook the salmon in your oven or grill for 20-25 minutes until the salmon is tender and begins to flake.
We recommend checking your salmon at the 20-minute mark and allowing more cooking time if needed.
Step 7: Serve with a side of rice and salad.
We like to layer it like the photo below. You can place a layer of salad on the bottom, topped it with rice, and then placed a slab of the cooked parmesan pesto basil salmon on top.
